Exhibition about slavery "Europe United Against Slavery"
opened at United Nations headquaters in Vienna on November, 15.
The exhibition was timed to coincide with international Day for
the Abolition of Slavery on December 2.
The exhibition has been co-organised by the Centre
for International Crime Prevention
(CICP) and the Comité
Contre l'Esclavage Moderne (CCEM).
In 2000, CCEM mobilized artists from across Europe on an information
campaign against slavery.
45 posters would be in the rotunda of the Vienna International
Centre until the end of the year. The artists were mobilized by
the CCEM The posters show different forms of slavery such as domestic
labour, prostitution, child labour and forced marriage. Some artists
address the physical and psychological degradation of victims, their
loss of identity and hope and the relationship between master and
victim. Posters are accompanied by a short written explanation.

CICP runs the Global Programme against Trafficking inhuman beings
which helps member states to combat trafficking and promotes the
development of effective ways to crack down on the perpetrators.
CICP currently operates four technical cooperation projects under
the Global Programme in Eastern Europe, in the Philippines, in Brazil
and in West Africa.
